Mississinewa and
The War of 1812

When war broke out between Britain and the United States in 1812 the Native Americans sided with the British. The Northwest Territory had been living with unrest since the days of the American Revolution. The Americans under William Henry Harrison advanced toward Mississinewa. The forts at Dearborn (Chicago), Mackinac and Detroit had all quickly fallen and were under British rule. Harrison needed to make a stand and he chose the Native towns along the Missisinewa River.
