Like all Colonial Settlements the Tavern was the center of life. And The Green Dragon was no exception. Here you could get a cup of tea, and step outside to see what fare was cooking.
British soldiers were on hand, checking to see if colonists had paid taxes to the Crown. They also mustered some "very young" men and put them through their military training.
From handmade breads to roasting meat the participants were treated to meals even while in their camps interacting with the visiting public.Food was delivered by wagon, and it smelled delicious!
The site at Natural Tunnel State Park was wonderfully suited for re-enactors to set up camp. Demonstrators were doing laundry, cooking, showing herbs and plants. There were also candles being made and dying and spinning wool. Salt was being boiled in one camp while the blacksmith was busy in the forge. Ladies were having visitors sign a petition against the new tax laws in the colonies. And the smell of baking bread was coming from the beehive oven.
Special Thanks to Pam Eddy for all her hard work in putting on this event and inviting us to attend!
