Fort Massac 2022

MassacDSCN0610

A fort that figured prominently on the frontier was Fort Massac. It’s history was spread from 1757 to 1812 and the fort was occupied by the French, The British and the Americans over the course of it’s history. Taking photos at this 2022 event was the first time I visited the fort. See the photos.

The Battle of Perryville
2022

The 160th Anniversary of the Battle of Perryville took place at the battlefield in Perryville, KY. One of the last remaining pristine battlefields in America (because of it’s rural setting) re-enactors and visitors flocked to this site by the thousands on October 8 & 9th. Amid a day of speakers, authors, demonstrators, food and shopping, there was something for everyone.

Perryville was the largest and last major battle in Kentucky. It pitted General Braxton Bragg’s Confederate Army against General Don carlos Buell’s Union Army. While Bragg won the battle tactically, the Confederate forces retreated and ended the campaign leaving Kentucky under Union control for the remainder of the war. Visit www.perryvillebattlefield.org to learn more and www.friendsofperryville.org to learn how about the ongoing preservation efforts for Perryville.

The Feast of the Hunters’ Moon 2022

A great way to celebrate Fall is this annual event. The history of Fort Ouiatenon covers several time periods. From it’s founding as a French post in 1717 - the area changed hands. From the French to the British to the Americans who finally destroyed the Fort in 1791.

And this event does the same. It welcomes the French, the Natives, the fur traders, the British Crown Forces and the Americans who came with George Rogers Clark.
