The Fair

It was an abbreviated Fair at New Boston for us in 2017. We chose to attend on Saturday and despite a good weather prediction, rain and mist from Hurricane Harvey lingered throughout the day. The battle was changed to a tactical static display and we left before it happened. It was wise of the planners to not have running soldiers, militia and Indians on horseback and gun and cannon fire trying to fire with wet powder.

But it is still a marvelous event and reports were for a beautiful day on Sunday.

Taking cover from the rain and the mist was easier in a period hat!

It is always the faces of the re-enactors that make an event! Different time periods, different occupations, different nationalities, whether Native or settler these are

The Native Camp

Life in the Native Camp went on despite the rain. Children and adults are always intrigued with seeing a different way of life.

New structures and a new palisade (fence) showed the hard work that has been going on in the Native village since last season.

Spotlight on a Performer

Clockwork Clown has dazzled adults and children alike with her antics and performances at countless years at The Fair at New Boston.

It’s always been difficult to get good photos because of the crowds surrounding her shows.

It was a marvelous experience this year when I was invited to come closer. Our favorite clown doesn’t speak - so I received a mimed invitation to see a spectacular site.

Have you ever wondered how she fits inside the trunk. Well, there are no secret compartments, no trickery or sorcery, just a very small lady who can fold herself inside!
