Trade Fair and Book Fair - All in One

Elizabethtown, Kentucky

February 3, 2018

The Indoor Trade Fair hosted by the Buck Snort Longrifles has been a mainstay for re-enactors for years. I’m not sure exactly how many years it has been going on but I know we set up there selling t-shirts and DVD’s in the early 2000’s.

I returned this past weekend in part because of The Ancestral Trails Book Fair. The 18th century trade fair was on one site of The Pritchard Community Center and the Book Fair was just across the hall.

The trade fair appeared to be doing a booming business and many of the faces were quite familiar.

There were many familiar faces at the book fair too. One reason for attending was the arrival of Eddie Price’s new book - One Drop— A Slave which I designed for Eddie this November. As the graphic designer behind the book it was up to me to choose the font, arrange the layout and create the cover from the artwork provided by Kentucky artist John Ward. After spending countless hours on the project there is always a certain sense of completion when the final book is in hand.

Other familiar faces included Sue Kelly Ballard author of Rebecca Boone - My Blessed Wretched Life. Betty Darnell was another author I had met years ago at a Bullitt County Genealogy Society meeting. Today her table had countless books finished in the ensuing years. Other groups included Union Sons of the Civil War and genealogy groups from many of the area counties: Bullitt County, Grayson County, and Browning Genealogy - a group with Obituary and other Records from the Evansville, Indiana and surrounding counties.

And of course perennial friends from The Governor Isaac Shelby Chapter od the Sons of The American Revolution.
