Amidst the troops from Kellar’s Company was a young man carrying the flag. In the revolutionary war young boys often carried flags or became drummers or fifers. Both drums and flags helped troops on the battlefield identify units, and show positions of troops amid often heavy smoke from artillery and muskets.
