Each year over 700,000 people gather along the riverfront in Louisville, Kentucky for Thunder Over Louisville a kickoff event for the Kentucky Derby. But high above the river, on a secluded hillside another event is taking place. It is 18th Century Thunder at Historic Locust Grove. Here a dedicated group from The Illinois Regiment encamp outside the home of William and Lucy Clark Croghan. Instead of fireworks and an air show like down on the river, visitors here, are treated to the sound of musket fire and drums.
Famed soldier George Rogers Clark spent his final days living at Locust Grove, under the care of his sister. Re-enactors portraying members of his unit - The Illinois Regiment take this weekend to camp on the grounds and give visitors a taste of life in the 18th century.
