Memorial Day is the last Monday in May and has been set aside as a federal holiday to honor those that have fallen in our armed services. This day, formerly known as Decoration Day, has been observed by some since just after the Civil War. Several towns, both North and South, claim to have celebrated first, but not as important as first, is that we remember to observe it.
After World War I the day became a way to honor the dead of all wars. And has continued so until this day.
On this day in 2011 we traveled to the Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Here is a look at the National Cemetery today . Our slide show includes a grave from World War I, World War II, Korea and Viet Nam.
