With Don’s help we started out light years ahead of where we otherwise would have been, said Raleigh.
Don first shot black powder in 1937and has been active in re-enacting since the 1950’s. He is an active member in The National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association.
Don admits his pace is a little slower today than 20 years ago. I asked Don what has changed since the ‘50’s in this hobby. “Not much - things are better organized today, and most of the bad things have changed, but the one thing that has not, are the people, the people are just great.”

Don said he wished more people would get involved in both black powder shooting and re-enacting. “It’s a great hobby.” And Don encourages his two grandsons by bringing tham to events like The Long Run Massacre. Don has attended all five of The Long Run Massacre Re-Enactments and says he will keep coming as long as he is able.
Don and his son Guy still take treks along the Ohio and Kentucky rivers.
