Women on the Frontier at
Fort Boonesborough

April 18-19, 2015

Photos by Jim and Kathy Cummings

The 11th Annual Women on the Frontier Event at Fort Boonesborough State Park took place in late April. The event began as a way to focus on women re-enactors and their special interests in frontier life. Back by popular demand was “Queen Charlotte” a milking cow used for hands on learning. Both the registered participants and visitors got a chance to try their hand at milking Charlotte.

Also an annual favorite is starting fire with flint and steel. Bill Farmer led the women in trying their hand. Young and old alike stepped up to learn the steps. Another favorite was dyeing with Carol Jarboe. Ever prepared Carol showed her knowledge and freely shared it with visitors. Kristi Heasley headed up the volunteers and did an outstanding job in planning the weekend.
