The Siege at Boonesborough 1778

Everyday life at Boonesborough was a busy one for settlers. When venturing outside the walls of the stockade, guards were always posted.
The militia drilled to stay on the ready in case of Indian attack.
A mounted scout alerts the settlers of Indians approaching the fort. Settlers head for the gates.
Blackfish and Daniel Boone meet under a white flag of truce.
The Indians tried to make a great show of shaking hands. Instead they grabbed the settlers above the elbows to wrestle them to the ground. But Boone ready for the deception had men positioned above the fort walls. And the battle ensued.
“The Indians did not leave all at once but gradually, and the fire consequently slackened until on the morning of the 12th day from their first appearance - i.e., the 20th Sept., they all disappeared.”
