The Story of the Siege of Fort Boonesborough
When Daniel Boone escaped Indian captivity in 1778 he made the trip from Chillicothe, Ohio to Fort Boonesborough in only four days. He had overheard plans for the Shawnee to attack the fort. Knowing the fort was not completely finished or safe from attack he wanted to warn the families there. Chief Blackfish arrived with 400 men, after Boone. Although Blackfish and Boone met outside the fort - no settlement was reached. The Siege that followed lasted 11 days. Although the Shawnee shot at the fort, tried to dig a tunnel underneath the walls and even sent flaming arrows Fort Boonesborough held. In the end rain ended the Siege and the Indians faded away into the night.
