When the Settlers from Squire Boone’s Painted Stone Station were attacked fleeing that station troops were rallied. The fleeing settlers had notified the militia and 27 men under the command of county Lieutenant Colonel John Floyd marched out the next day. The Indians knew the settlers would return to bury their dead and were waiting in ambush. This attack was to become known as Floyd’s Defeat.
