It is often said that “Christmas is for children.” Well, I also think Christmas is a time for fine houses and lavish decorations. Seeing how Cassius M. Clay and his family would have decorated the Italianate Mansion known as White Hall says much about how Christmas traditions evolved in our country. Curator Lashe Mullins, and Manager Kathleen White spend much time not only decorating the mansion but researching the decorations.
In addition to the decorations, placards inform visitors of the history and tradition behind the decorations. Visitors were greeted by costumed interpreters throughout the house. This years featured decorations were the peacocks in the main drawing room.
This year’s annual holiday tour was graced with good weather both weekends, unlike last year when snow forced some cancellations.
