Drawn to the outdoors all my life, as well as living on Avalon Farm for the past 57 years, ( and continuing to do so) has nurtures my love of nature, its simplicity and beauty. As a result, my art leans toward folk and with its simplicity and imagery and at time , incorporates the wood from Avalon Farm.

I discovered my interest when my husband passed away—art has filled a void and helps bring me peace and joy.

I have enjoyed exploring many techniques and medium in acrylic, open and ink, and fabric painting. Different grounds for these mediums have been fun to explore whether it be on a piece of cherry wood from the Avalon Farm, white washed wood, canvas, paper or fabric.

I will never be Grandma Moses but I get so much pride, joy and pleasure from my work. I have discovered about my self that I didn’t know existed,-- I can do better than a Stick Man!!!

Joe McCord

Joe was a 4th generation farmer and owner of Avalon Farm for 70 years. He was very diversified having not only raised crops such as tobacco, tobacco plants, hay and vegetables but also registered Polled Hereford cattle, sheep, freshwater shrimp, tilapia, as well as starting a quail hunting preserve.

After 40 years, Joe returned to furniture making. The wood he used, be it cherry or walnut came from Avalon Farm, all pieces made were by either his own design, copied from family pieces for commissioned work.

Sadly Joe passed away in 2019 but his creations will live on to be enjoyed by many for years to come.
