The Kentucky Old Mill Association (KOMA) was established as a non-profit organization in 2001 to promote interest in Kentucky old mills, their history, function, and preservation. KOMA is one of the regional chapters of the national Society for the Preservation of Old Mills (SPOOM). We usually sponsor two events each year: a Gristmill & Old Engine Weekend at Clay City in May and a mill outing in the fall. KOMA also publishes a 52-page journal, The Millstone, twice a year.

Kentucky, like many other states, once had numerous gristmills, flour mills, sawmills, wool processing mills, bark mills and many other types of mills driven by water, steam, animal, human, gasoline, gas, electric and other forms of power. It is KOMA's intention to preserve, record, document and make the history of these treasures from the past known to the public.
